Undoubtedly one of the most charming cities in the south of France, Montpellier is home to a number of cultural and architectural treasures. The colivers presents the 7 places you absolutely must see!

1 – Comédie Square

At the heart of the city, the Place de la Comédie is an undeniably charming place to live. Bounded by superb town houses, the opera house and the fine arts district, it’s a must-see!

2 – The Arc de Triomphe

The gateway to the old town, the 15-metre-high Arc de Triomphe stands at the end of the Avenue Foch. Built in honour of Louis XIV in 1691, it is a true masterpiece!

3 – The Jardin des Plantes

Created in 1593, this is the oldest botanical garden in France! Come and enjoy the restful setting, the tropical atmosphere of the greenhouses and the unique trees, including a 200-year-old silver apricot tree!

4 – Saint Peter’s Cathedral

Undoubtedly one of the city’s most imposing buildings, the Gothic-style Cathedral of St Peter was founded in 1364. Its façade is adorned with two impressive towers that serve as a huge vaulted entrance.

5 – The Anatomy Museum

In the horror museum genre, the Anatomy Museum is one of the most terrifying! You’ll find hearts, livers, foetuses and other oddities, all authentic specimens that have been preserved for centuries to aid the study of anatomy. A word of advice: forget breakfast, you’re in for quite a surprise!

6 –  Antigone district

Right next to the Polygone shopping centre, this district will give you the impression of moving to a different city! Architect Ricardo Bofill built this district, which stretches right down to the river Lez, and is a fine example of post-modern architecture. A must-see!

7 – The Château de Flaugergues

A former holiday home of the aristocracy, the Château de Flaugergues is considered by many to be the most original building in the city in this style. The gardens are particularly beautiful, making this spectacular building a must-see in Montpellier.
